Paul McCartney Atlanta Benefit Show
Former Beatle announces new date
Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney is set to enter the fight to save a historic park in the American city of Atlanta.
Sir Paul McCartney's energy is one of the real mysteries of the music industry. With indie groups collapsing after one album, burnt out by the rigours of the live scene Sir Paul McCartney keeps on working, more than fifty years after he first picked up a guitar.
The former Beatle released a new album last year, with his side project The Fireman. The singer took on board electronic influences, and together with producer Youth crafted one of his finest albums in some time.
There has been much speculation to date over a possible collaboration between Sir Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan, with the Liverpool musician admitting that the idea appeals to him. Always up to date, McCartney named Brooklyn group MGMT as a band he would love to team up with.
The singer's live schedule is as packed as ever. Sir Paul McCartney closed this year's Coachella festival with an emotional performance. Set in the desert of Los Angeles, the former Beatle dedicated a song to his late wife Linda, with the singer's voice cracking as he began the classic track.
Sir Paul McCartney is due to play a number of massive shows in the United States. The Beatles were the first group to perform at New York's Shea Stadium, with McCartney being invited to sing at the last ever concert in the arena.
A guest of BIlly Joel, McCartney was able to perform one last time before the stadium was ripped down last year. Re-built as Citi Field, Sir Paul McCartney recently confirmed two nights at the new stadium.
Due to huge fan demand for tickets, McCartney has been forced to add another date to the stint. In addition to this, the singer is scheduled to perform at Piedmont Park in Atlanta on August 15th.
Founded in 1887 the historic public park is under threat as local authorities do not have the money to support its upkeep. A new concert has been organised which has been expected to attract thousands of fans.
Other groups to have supported the cause are the likes of Dave Matthews band and the Allman Brothers, who played to some 50,000 respectively.
