Panda Bear Listening Parties
'Tomboy' almost here
Panda Bear is set to host a series of listening parties across the UK to showcase his new album 'Tomboy'.
It's been a long time coming. 'Tomboy' first appeared on release schedules last year, before Animal Collective songwriter Panda Bear decided to launch an unusual singles scheme.
Kept to a strictly limited edition, the series of seven inch releases took in a number of different releases. Fat Cat, Domino, Kompakt and Panda Bear's own Paw Tracks took care of the material, which previewed songs destined for 'Tomboy'.
Apparently a step backwards from the sample-delic approach of 2007's 'Person Pitch' the new album boasts some unusual influences. In recent interviews the songwriter has spoken of a love for the R&B he grew up around in Baltimore.
Using more guitars, Panda Bear has spoken longingly of his youth listening to The White Stripes. A little more stripped back than previous efforts, new album 'Tomboy' is due to drop on April 12th.
Now fans have been granted the chance to listen to the album ahead of schedule. 'Tomboy' will sit at the centre of a handful of listening parties, spread across the country in the build up to the release.
Manchester's Piccadilly Records are due to host the first listening party, taking place at 5pm on April 4th. Elsewhere, Brighton's Resident store will play 'Tomboy' to interested parties an hour later.
Meanwhile, Glasgow's cult record store Monorail is set to host a 'Tomboy' listening party on April 11th. Taking place in the run up to the release itself, the album will be played from 11pm onwards.
As midnight tolls fans will then be able to buy their own copy, with Pastels songwriter Stephen McRobbie no doubt manning the till.
