OMD Toy With Sound Design On ‘The View From Here’

Synth pioneers return to active duty...

OMD – Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark – have never been afraid to step outside of their comfort zone.

Synth pop pioneers, the band felt able to take inspiration from the world of architecture while cribbing notes from Kraftwerk LPs.

It's a trait that continues to fuel their work, with the electronic boffins returning to active duty on new album 'The Punishment Of Luxury'.

Continuing to break down their work and build it up anew, OMD are content to piece together fragments in dazzling new designs.

The band's Andy McCluskey explains: "On this album we have managed to make beautiful things out of noises and repetitive patterns… The trouble is, we just cant help but write a catchy melody!"

The upcoming release borrows its name from a 1891 painting by the Italian Giovani Segantini, and this element of design, of visual art, permeates into the music itself.

Clash is able to premiere new cut 'The View From Here', and it's an enthralling piece of music – pop futurism, the synths billow past as OMD explore their innate love of melody.
