Psychedelic legends The Grateful Dead have re-united for the first time in four years for a 'Change Rocks' fundraiser in aid of the Barack Obama campaign.
Rock stars paying tribute to the politician has been a hallmark of the Obama campaign, and The Grateful Dead are the latest in a long line top join the fundraising trail. Formed in 1965, The Dead were one of the best loved bands of the psychedelic era, capable of drawing huge crowds with their lengthy jams.
Performing without lead Jerry Garcia - who left this earth in 1995 - the band lined up with Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart. Wier played a long set with a number of broken ribs - Noel Gallagher take note!
The concert at Penn State University was opened by the legendary Allman Brothers Band, providing a flashback to the late 60s when the two bands would often appear together on bills across the US.
The sold out gig was apparently a huge success, attracting over 16,000 fans and containing video messages from Obama's campaign.
