Oasis Heaton Park Triumph
Huge crowd gather at homecoming gig
Oasis performed a stunning set at the second night of their homecoming stint in Manchester's Heaton Park.
It all started so promisingly. Oasis announced a massive UK tour earlier this year, playing their biggest arenas since the historic Knebworth shows in 1996. However since then the band have had nothing but trouble.
Announcing a number of support acts, The Enemy's comments on playing the tour didn't go down too well with Liam Gallagher. Lambasting the Coventry group in a Twitter posting, the indie giants were forced to explain their comments.
On the first night of the tour The Enemy were forced to pull out due to lead singer Tom Clarke suffering from chronic food poisoning. Reverend & The Makers were drafted in to play a crowd pleasing set, but sound problems hampered the headliners set.
Oasis were forced to leave the stage twice due to technical difficulties, leading to the Gallagher brothers to promise that the crowd would receive a full refund. Given a couple of days to rest, the band seemed on fighting form during the second night (June 6th) of their Manchester jaunt.
The massive crowd included a number of well known faces. Model Agyness Deyn was joined by some of Manchester's most legendary faces with New Order bassist Peter Hook, as well as Primal Scream musician and all round dude Mani.
The show avoided heavy rain predicted by forecasters, with The Enemy returning to play their first set of the tour. Bringing out the hits, the group played a healthy selection of tracks from their smash hit new album 'Music For The People'.
Elsewhere on the bill local lads (well, Oldham) Twisted Wheel played a stirring set, alongside Free Peace and Leicester giants Kasabian.
Oasis emerged to massive cheers from the 70,000 crowd plunging straight into classic anthem 'Rock N Roll Star'. On sizzling form, Oasis rolled out the hits including their early ode to debauchery 'Cigarettes And Alcohol'.
Singer Liam Gallagher left the stage at several points, with brother Noel taking lead vocals on 'Don't Look Back In Anger' and 'Half The World Away'.
With Noel and Liam Gallagher both working on solo material, this could be a sight that Oasis fans get used to with Noel Gallagher claiming that the band will not be releasing new material for five years.
Ending with a cover of The Beatles' 'I Am The Walrus' the band left the stage in a shower of noise, feedback and cheering from the army of fans and well wishers.
Oasis are set to play their final Heaton Park show tonight (June 8th).
