Nouvelle Vague Album Details

French bossa nova favourites Nouvelle Vague are set to cover classics from The Sex Pistols, Depeche Mode and many more on their new album 'NV3'.

Punk is loud, in your face and totally without subtlety. Bossa nova is latino-lite, a style of music best left to 'Strictly Come Dancing' contestants. Forming a band in order to blend the two would be madness, surely?

Well maybe not. Since their inception French group Nouvelle Vague have become cult favourites due to their easy listening overhauls of punk and new wave classics. The band's self-titled debut album crept out in 2004, and stunned critics with its fresh and irreverent take on the music of The Undertones, Dead Kennedys and more.

Becoming festival favourites, the band are now set to deliver their third studio album 'NV3'. Featuring a host of guest stars, the new album comes closer than ever to the initial aims of Nouvelle Vague.

“The original concept of Nouvelle Vague was to use young girl singers who don’t know the meaning of punk and post-punk music,” says Marc Collin, in whose Paris studio the records are made. “That way, they are bringing something new and totally fresh to the songs, and it really worked. So we kept doing it in this direction.”

The new album contains re-workings of songs by the likes of Talking Heads, Psychedelic Furs, Depeche Mode and Depeche Mode re-visits 'Master And Servant' while Terry Hall of reformed 2 Tone legends The Specials guests on 'Our Lips Are Sealed'.

The band's first new album in three years, 'NV3' is set to pick up where Nouvelle Vague left off. With their two previously released albums clocking up over half a million sales between them, Nouvelle Vague's musical mission is clearly winning some converts.

Nouvelle Vague are due to release their new album 'NV3' on June 29th.
