Ninja Tune Reaches 20

Host of surprises planned for milestone

Revered British independent label Ninja Tune is set to turn twenty years old this summer.

Twenty years is not a long time. But in the course of just two decades the Cold War has ended, the War On Terror has begun and electronic music has distorted into all manner of weird and wonderful shapes.

Founded by production duo Jon More and Matt Black – also known as Coldcut – Ninja Tune has gone on to become one of Britain’s most respected independent labels.

Open minded, Ninja Tune has recently released material by everyone from Anti Pop Consortium to Bonobo, with the label recently capturing Sheffield dancehall titan Toddla T for a new album.

Set to celebrate their birthday in style, Ninja Tune have revealed details of several special releases. The label will unleash a deluxe box set featuring specially designed artwork from Ninja designer Openmind.

The box set will consist of three hardcover cases in a hardback box, containing some rare and never before heard material. Case One will feature six disc of music, while Case Two will feature special edition seven inch singles presented in a hardback book.

Meanwhile Case Three will contain the full story of Ninja Tune, with Stevie Chick agreeing to pen the label’s biography. The deluxe hardback edition will only feature in the box set, which will boast rafts of exclusive material.

In addition to this Ninja Tune founders Coldcut will present a huge birthday party in London at the glamourous location of the Ewer Street Car Park. The line up has not be revealed, but it is expected to feature special performers from throughout the band’s career.

Ninja Tune will release their XX Box Set on September 20th.
