Nilesh Patel Passes Away

Exchange mastering engineer dies

Nilesh Patel - a hugely respected mastering engineer at the Exchange - has passed away.

Mastering is the final step in the recording process, and one of the most vital. London complex The Exchange has earned an international reputation, with their exacting techniques applied to some seminal material.

Sadly, Nilesh Patel - one of the most highly regarded members of The Exchange - has passed away. Joining the community in 1989, the engineer earned a solid reputation over the course of two decades.

Working with some incredible artists, Nilesh Patel earned credits on Daft Punk's 'Discovery', Air's 'Moon Safari' and Bjork's 'Homogenic'.

Some of the artists who worked with the engineer were quick to express their sadness. Speaking to fans on Twitter, Four Tet said that Nilesh Patel was a "brilliant cutting engineer…who cut loads of my records."

2ManyDJs meanwhile, said: "We're sorry to hear about the loss of Nilesh Patel, the man we cut most of our records with. He was the kindest soul with the best ears."

Chemical Brothers reflected on the loss by saying: "Very sad to hear about Nilesh Patel.He played an important part in many a great record.thoughts with the whole exchange gang".

Highlighting the respect he held throughout the recording community, Abbey Road were quick to mourn the engineer: "Very sad news about Nilesh Patel. Thoughts are with his family and everyone at @exchangestudios."

Erol Alkan said: "In my eyes and ears, he was the best mastering engineer on Earth. Spent so many afternoons together talking like nerds.."
