The Strokes bass player turned solo star Nikolai Fraiture is set to run this year's New York marathon.

If The Strokes are taking time off, at least they're not lazing around. Between them the various members are responsible for a total of four solo albums with singer Julian Casablancas also recording a special one off track with Santigold and Pharrell Williams.

Now it seems that Nikolai Fraiture is going to get in shape for this year's New York marathon. One of the most popular long distance running events on the planet, the bass player is set to take part in the name of charity.

Fraiture will run the event to raise money for New York Road Runnners Foundation's Team For Kids charity.

Speaking to fans via his MySpace blog, the bass player confirmed his involvement in the marathon:

"I will be helping raise the funds needed to support youth fitness, goal-setting and nutrition programs throughout America and Africa while fulfilling, as a New Yorker, a life-long dream of running the marathon".

Fans can help Nikolai Fraiture on his way by sponsoring The Strokes' bass player. Just visit the official New York marathon website and enter the musician's name FRAITURE and his entry number 445053.

New York Marathon takes place on November 1st.

Earlier today (October 12th) ClashMusic reported that The Strokes were close to finishing writing their fourth studio album.
