Nike Announce Virtual Race

Worldwide event planned

Global streetwear giant Nike have confirmed details of a massive new virtual race - and you can take part.

Nike are no strangers to inventive ideas. Having stayed at the forefront of sneaker fashion for decades the company must be doing something right, with their iconic high-tops adorning the feet of every fashionista raver.

The company are set to launch a new competition which allows fans to become part of a global movement. The Nike+ Human Race allows runners to log their own attempts at the dreaded 10k run, with the best verified times winning special prizes.

Runners are asked to work out their route in advance, with any territory from city urban or the highest peaks being suitable. Participants should complete their run on October 24th and then record the results on NikePlus - a new virtual community devoted to the race.

To help you prepare for race day Nikeplus will feature training programmes so you can aim to run faster than ever before on 24 October. Registration is now open on the Nike website, with all who sign up gaining a special t-shirt to wear on race day.

As anyone who has run 10k before knows, it helps to have a good soundtrack. Of course, Nike are one step ahead with Nike+ iPod Sport Kit - the wireless system that allows Nike footwear to communicate with an iPod nano for the ultimate personal running and workout experience.

The company has even been as kind as to offer you some hand prepared mixes to help you maintain concentration. The Nike mix series has seen stunning music from the likes of De La Soul and LCD Soundsystem, with James Murphy's effort in particular standing out.

The DFA mainman is due to re-visit his special Nike mix '45:33' with a series of remixes. James Murphy has invited an array of producers to rework his tracks, containing some startling results.

Nike+ Human Race takes place on October 24th.
