Nick Cave Novel Heads To TV

Ray Winstone set to star

Nick Cave's novel 'The Death Of Bunny Munro' could be adapted to a television mini-series.

Nick Cave is a man of many talents. The Australian songwriter has branched out into the world of cinema, directing 'The Proposition' and scoring several more including 'The Assassination Of Jesse James'.

Last year the singer released his second novel, after a literary gap of some two decades. 'The Death Of Bunny Munro' was a darkly comedic tale of a travelling salesman who is coping with the suicide of his wife.

Speaking to Empire at the Dundee Literary Festival, Nick Cave confirmed that 'The Death Of Bunny Munro' is set to be turned into a television mini-series.

Continuing, Nick Cave revealed he originally scripted the story as a screenplay before turning it into a novel due to lack of interest. The singer claimed that he had lined up Ray Winstone for the central role.

"(Winstone) really loved the script when we first handed it to him," explained Cave. "He was really excited about it, and really distressed it kinda tanked and never got made."

The British actor appeared in Cave's outback / cowboy film 'The Proposition' and the singer is confident he can bring some extra to the role. "Ray let himself go for that particular part. When he speaks everyone cranes toward him: he has this kind of pull which is really extraordinary" he said.

"It's something to do with his ability to be really funny, and the kind of vulnerability he has going on."

Nick Cave's partner John Hillcoat argued that British television needs to wake up the potential of the story. "We're going to try and wake up the BBC or Channel4, and say to British television, 'Look at HBO. I mean what the hell are you doing?'"

Aside from this, Nick Cave also hinted that he has another film idea in the pipeline. The singer recently revealed that he had been invited to write a script for a potential sequel to 'Gladiator'.
