New York Dolls are counting down to two special dates at the Old Vic Tunnels.

A truly seminal group, New York Dolls were accepted in the UK long before their native United States. Retaining an affection for dear old Blighty, the band opted to record new album 'Walking Backward In High Heels' in Newcastle.

Released earlier today, New York Dolls have also confirmed two special shows in London. Kickstarting a new tour, the legendary glam-punk collective are set to play in the Old Vic Tunnels.

Red brick tunnels located beneath the Old Vic Theatre, the unique venue stretches underneath Waterloo Station. Build in the Victorian era, the tunnels were recently transformed into a makeshift venue.

The current artistic director of the Old Vic is Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey, who seemed delighted that New York Dolls were set to play the venue. "I'm excited that the Old Vic Tunnels are becoming a cool new scene for live performance,” said the actor.

“The New York Dolls inspired the punk movement, so they are the perfect fit of glam and anarchy to launch our live music series under Waterloo Station. In addition, a new rock band called The Shoestrung will open both shows, who are also worth checking out.”

Speaking to ClashMusic recently, frontman David Johansen reflected on the band's continuing exploration. "Every time I do a musical exploration - I get fanatical about something and immerse myself in it - it kinda nourishes me and makes everything else sound new and fresh".

"Sometimes you can hear a song that you’ve heard a thousand times, and then go through some other musical adventure, and then you come back and listen to that song again and it’s like you never heard it before; you’re hearing it from different ears."
