Damon Albarn has unveiled previously unreleased Gorillaz track 'Whirlwind'.
Far more than simply 'wot Damon did after Blur', Gorillaz have a fair claim to being the most progressive pop act of the post-Millennial era. Spluttering to a halt last year, the band left behind them three hugely successful albums.
Invited to present a show on Radio 2 at the weekend, Damon Albarn responded with a personal selection, including some rare cuts from his own collection. As a treat for fans, the singer included the previously unreleased Gorillaz track 'Whirlwind'.
Featuring a contribution from the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra, you can listen to the track below:
Currently, Damon Albarn has two albums in the pipeline - a much rumoured solo project is said to be taking shape on XL, while the much-vaunted Blur album might still get off the launchpad.
As for Gorillaz, it seems that the singer has not shut the door on the animated collective. "Jamie wants to do other things and I understand," he told the NME. "But you never know, in a few years he might have a burning desire to draw those pictures again, and as soon as he does that, as far as I’m concerned, there could be another Gorillaz album."
