Never Mind The Buzzcocks Is Axed

BBC to cancel long running quiz show...

The BBC has confirmed that long running music quiz show Never Mind The Buzzcocks is to end.

Launched in 1996, Never Mind The Buzzcocks was initially hosted by Mark Lamarr. An instant success, the format proved to be durable with Simon Anstell adding a rather more caustic tone during his stint on the show.

More recently presented by Rhod Gilbert, the show has lasted for some 28 series and has prompted all manner of memorabilia.

A BBC spokesperson commented:

"After 28 series we’ve decided not to bring Never Mind the Buzzcocks back to the BBC. This will create space for new entertainment formats in the future. We’d like to thank the team at Talkback, Rhod Gilbert, all the brilliant hosts over the years and of course Noel and Phill for the years of enjoyment they’ve given BBC2 viewers."

One of the show's most notable moments was when Preston from The Ordinary Boys walked off set after Simon Anstell read excerpts from the singer's then-wife Chantelle Houghton's ghost-written autobiography.
