The worlds of fashion and house music have been known, of course, to overlap. Models striding down the catwalk to four-to-the-floor grooves has become as natural a pairing as salt and vinegar on chips. It’s not often, though, that you find leaders in the four corners of menswear, house music, media and drinks knocking heads to produce a completely unique string of parties.
Which is where Never Alone comes into the equation. Currently the company strapline of bleeding-edge menswear designers Blood Brother, their plan is to breathe life into this as a concept that seeks to nurture young talent through collaborations between like-minded members of the creative community. Already on board are house-institution-since-‘99 Defected Records, music-loving lager brewers Pistonhead and, of course, Clash.
“The uniqueness is,” Defected’s Greg Sawyer points out, “down to this number and range of collaborators, and the people that these leaders in their fields will attract to the parties.” Blood Brother co-founder James Waller agrees. “In order to stay relevant you’ve got to keep moving forward and meeting new people, creating and collaborating.”
What unites the camps is the dozens of ears firmly glued to the ground and a passion for rooting out new talent. Defected are committed to putting out the very best in house music, while the pieces that Blood Brother design are forward-thinking; unafraid to push boundaries while adhering to strict style sensibilities.
So pencils and diaries at the ready, as December 12th will see the first in the series kicking off at the Red Gallery (website) in the heart of east London. A fitting location, given the label’s Eastern roots and Blood Brother’s flagship store in Shoreditch.
Defected has been tasked with curating a floor-filling line-up, and are drawing from their sister-label DFTD to show off up-and-coming selectors. “There’s a lot of untapped talent in electronic music,” Greg explains, “and our aim is to bring people’s attention to that talent.” Australia’s Sonny Fodera will be joining Andre Lodemann from Berlin on the bill, while the UK’s Jamie Blanco and Simon Morell will also be taking to the decks.
Not just a one-off event, we’ll be throwing three more in the series, which our team of creatives are already planning meticulously.
Join us for the first in the series, which will take place on 12th December at the Red Gallery, Shoreditch.
