George Harrison tribute unveiled

My Morning Jacket singer Jim James is preparing to release a very special tribute to former Beatles guitarist George Harrison.

One of the most enchanting voices in American rock music, Jim James' high arching croon has enchanted fans around the planet. A continually questing songwriter last year's album 'Evil Urges' moved from plaintive howl to white boy funk in the space of a few seconds.

Touring the world, Jim James was chosen to be one of a series of people to wear the United Nations 'peace belt'. An ornately decorated piece of jewellery, James wore the belt during the band's triumphant performance at Scotland's T In The Park festival.

The band returned to the United States, however their tour was cut short after Jim James suffered a nasty fall. The incident happened during a Barack Obama benefit show, with the Southern group throwing their weight behind the Democrat candidate.

Now it seems that Jim James is ready to release a new solo EP. The singer reportedly recorded a series of songs in tribute to George Harrison after the former Beatles guitarist died in 2001.

A shy and retiring musician, George Harrison was unlucky to be part of a group that contained two of the most gifted songwriters of all time. A sensitive artist in his own right, George Harrison wrote some of The Beatles most memorable songs - including the oft covered ballad 'Something'.

Harrison's solo career included moments of genius, such as his debut solo album 'All Things Must Pass'. Often rated as the finest solo effort by any member of the Fab Four, it was followed by numerous musical pearls as Harrison continued to challenge himself.

The guitarist died in 2001, following a battle with lung cancer. My Morning Jacket singer Jim James was apparently so moved by the news of Harrison's death that he immediately recorded the new EP.

Released under the name Yim Yames, the EP contains four Harrison solo tracks as well as two covers of songs that George Harrison wrote while in The Beatles - 'Long, Long, Long' and 'Love You To', according to Billboard.

Titled 'Tribute To', the new EP follows on from news that Jim James is set to collaborate with a number of other songwriting greats. The My Morning Jacket mainman will line up alongside Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and M Ward on the forthcoming debut album 'Monsters Of Folk'.

With the group's debut album due to drop in September, it looks like a busy year for My Morning Jacket completists.

Yim Yames is set to release 'Tribute To' on August 4th. Full tracklisting is as follows:

'Long, Long, Long'
'Behind That Locked Door'
'Love You To'
'My Sweet Lord'
'Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)'
'All Things Must Pass'
