My Bloody Valentine Hit States

Secret warm up show planned

One of Britain's most pioneering groups My Bloody Valentine are preparing to bring their powerful live show to the United States.

My Bloody Valentine formed in London in the mid 80s as yet another shambling indie group. Their early material was blasted as being derivative, yet after a line up adjustment and a sojourn to Germany the band returned with a clutch of groundbreaking songs and an infamously loud stageshow.

Their album 'Isn't Anything' helped inspire the shoegazing movement with its blend of carefully layered noise and ethereal vocals. Follow up 'Loveless' famously took leader Kevin Shields months to prepare, nearly bankrupting Creation Records in the process.

The band went on hiatus after the album, surrounded by rumour and myth. Their stage show was so loud that fans would often flee the show in terror, as the band would play bathed in white light.

Returning last year, My Bloody Valentine proved they were more than capable of matching their legend with a series of stunning live shows. There has been no sign of new material so far, but given the band's notoriously sluggish work rate that's really no surprise.

My Bloody Valentine are due to travel to the United States shortly for a performance at this summer's Coachella festival. A rare American appearance by the band, it will be preceded by a 'secret' warm up show at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

Bands that perform at Coachella are usually not permitted to play shows in the Los Angeles area immediately preceding or following their Coachella performances, but occasional exceptions are made. Last year, for example, fellow Brits Portishead played an intimate show at the Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles.

Coachella takes place between April 17th - 19th.
