Mumford & Sons Plan Second Album

Writing already under way

Folk types Mumford & Sons are set to begin work on their second album later this year.

Breezing into the Scottish Highlands, Mumford & Sons have completed one of the most unusual tours of their career. Celebrating their debut album 'Sigh No More' selling one million copies in both America and the UK, the band swapped massive arena venues for a series of shows in village halls, local churches and more.

Enjoying their time in the Highlands so much that they decided to stay for another show, Mumford & Sons arranged a secret show on Saturday night (March 12th). Playing Boat Of Garten village hall, the band dropped in a few new tracks.

Making their live debut, the material was a logical continuation of 'Sigh No More'. Now set to return to the United States, Mumford & Sons recently revealed that work on their second album would begin later this year.

"We want to get the second album recorded this year, and we’re hoping to have gigged the record in before going to the studio," Ben Lovett told Rolling Stone.

The band are planning to team up with producer Marcus Dravs once again. "I think we could perhaps record it ourselves, but we’d get lost in our own sorts," Lovett said. "He’s really good at bringing a little bit of structure and order to very disorganized minds."

Already a highlight of their live set, 'Lover Of The Light' is amongst the songwriter's favourite from the new material. "Some people have heard it, we’ve been playing it for about eight months now," Lovett said.

"I think that should go all the way through the next record, but ultimately we’re trying to write better and better songs, and songs that are truer to ourselves. And if we end up writing 10 to 15 songs better than that one, it will just have to sit on the B Side of the tape somewhere."

Meanwhile, Mumford & Sons have confirmed plans to tour the United States on an antique train. Playing a total of six shows, the Railroad Revival Tour will see the band live, sleep and play on the train.

Due to be filmed for a documentary, the film will be released later this year.
