Hitsville USA will be reborn when Motown begin their 50th anniversary celebrations by launching a massive singles re-issue program containing 50 classic cuts.

Founded in 1959, Motown grew from humble origins to dominate American pop like no other label. The Motown sound travelled the globe, at a time when black musicians were regarded as second citizens in their own homeland.

The label is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a series of special events. Beginning in January 2009, Motown will re-release several of its seminal 45s, each in a limited edition of just 2000 copies. Each release will come with a Motown spider and download card, meaning that fans can download the track and save the vinyl as a collectors item.

Beginning with Barrett Strong's 'Money' (written by label founder Berry Gordy) the re-issue program stretches from Mary Wells and Brenda Holloway to Rick James and Stevie Wonder. Along the way Motown will visit some of its finest artists, and most evocative recordings.

The Motown singles re-issue program begins in January.
