Morrissey Leads Chart Battle

Singer ahead of Lily Allen

Indie legend Morrissey could be set for a UK number one with his new album 'Years Of Refusal' if midweek sales are anything to go by.

The former Smiths singer released his new album on Monday (February 16th). Hailed by critics as a triumphant return it was preceded by the hit single 'I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris'.

After strong first day sales Morrissey tops the midweek charts, but the Mancunian singer had better not get complacent - Lily Allen is less than 1000 sales behind.

Morrissey has been hinting recently that he could quit music. In an interview with XFM he dismissed working beyond 55, leading some to claim this could be one of his last musical statements.

In a recent interview on 'The One Show' the singer claimed he was more open that many songwriters. "I think I’ve been on the line for many, many years and I don’t think many pop songwriters are on the line. I think they just detach themselves completely, they just write what’s expected.”

Morrissey's new album 'Years Of Refusal' is out now.
