Morrissey Cancels Bournemouth Show
Indie icon thanks fans
Indie icon Morrissey has been forced to cancel an upcoming show in Bournemouth due to ongoing health difficulties.
Morrissey occupies a very special place in British music. Loved and loathed, the singer has had an incalculable effect through his work with The Smiths and his ongoing solo career.
Returning earlier this year with his new album 'Years Of Refusal' the singer embarked on an ambitious tour. However health problems have limited his live performances, with shows in the United States and Britain being cancelled.
Performing in Swindon on Saturday night (October 24th) the singer lasted for just one song. Opening with 'This Charming Man' Morrissey appeared to be in great difficulty, eventually sinking to his knees at the end of the song.
Unconscious, the singer was escorted to hospital. Discharged yesterday (October 25th) Morrissey was ordered to rest at home.
A Great Western Hospital spokeswoman said he was kept in overnight as a "precautionary measure" but was "much improved", reports BBC News.
A statement from Morrissey confirmed that he is recovering, and thanked fans for their patience. "Morrissey is in stable condition after his collapse in Swindon Saturday night. Thanks go out to all his well wishers, more information will be posted as soon as it is available."
Somewhat bizarrely, presenter Jonathon Ross is giving regular updates on Morrissey's condition. Speaking on his Twitter page the talk show host claimed:
"Latest Moz update. He is resting and hoping to finish these dates, inc. Albert hall onTuesday. Will keep you posted as and when.
"Am sending flowers to Moz this afternoon, and cupcakes! Will update re health and tour-dates as and when. Peace out."
However in a new statement Morrissey's spokesperson has confirmed that an upcoming show in Bournemouth has been cancelled.
"The Morrissey concert at Bournemouth Academy on Monday, October 26 will not take place on medical advice.
"This follows his hospitalisation on Saturday night in Swindon. Morrissey has now been released from hospital and is under doctors' instruction to rest. Event organisers apologise for this unavoidable situation."
Tickets can be refunded at the point of purchase.
