moby & Mark Lanegan To Release One Off Single

As part of Record Store Day...

moby and Mark Lanegan are set to pair off on a new Record Store Day single.

Record Store Day inspires some unusual collaborations. Artists are persuaded to hop into the studio, often resulting in some pretty unusual, extremely limited edition releases.

Returning next month, this year's instalment of Record Store Day is set to boast a number of special releases.

moby and Mark Lanegan are due to pair off, with the two musicians recording material for an upcoming single. Lead cut 'Lonely Night' was recorded recently, and will be released on moby’s own label Little Idiot. The flip will be devoted to a new remix, with Photek stepping in to re-work moby and Mark Lanegan's studio effort.

moby was clearly excited about the project. "I've been a fan of mark's from his early sst records days, and i've always wanted to work with him. he has one of the best and most distinctive voices of the last 25 years. Now that we live near each other it ended up being really easy working on a song together" he said.

"…And in producing the song, spike stent and I incorporated some very unusual production techniques… we ran all of the instruments through a distortion pedal into a guitar amp. so really there are only 3 tracks: left channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, right channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, and Mark's vocals. The end result is intentionally very broken and atmospheric."

'Lonely Night' will be released on April 20th.
