Michael Jackson Tributes Flood In

Madonna, P Diddy eulogise singer

A host of massive stars have lined up to pay their respects to Michael Jackson who died yesterday (June 25th).

Michael Jackson took ill at his home in Los Angeles yesterday (June 25th). After being rushed to hospital his medical team attempted for over an hour to resuscitate the singer before Jackson was declared dead.

The iconic singer leaves behind him a glittering back catalogue. Sure, in recent times scandal and cash flow problems surrounded his every move but way back when Michael Jackson was nigh on unstoppable.

From 'Off The Wall' to 'Thriller' and beyond, Michael Jackson seemed to set and break chart records on an almost daily basis. An icon to an entire generation, the star's manipulation of the emerging video format would break new ground for the music industry.

In a Twitter message rap guru P Diddy stated that he was devastated to hear of the singer's death. "Michael Jackson showed me that you can actually see the beat,” he wrote. “He made the music come to life!! He made me believe in magic. I will miss him!”

Meanwhile Fall Out Boy singer Pete Wentz made his feelings clear in a series of posting on Twitter. The frontman said "I have never felt this before in my life. I could measure my childhood 2 now on an mj growth chart. if this is true. Rip. The last legend."

One time Specials leader Jerry Dammers echoed the thoughts of many with a simple statement to fans. "The thing that sometimes seems to get overlooked about Michael Jackson is what an absolutely phenomenal singer he was."

"He had one of the greatest gospel shouts of the 20th century, quite possibly the last of it’s kind. The outros of some of his songs especially, such as "Gotta be starting something" were ecstatic, and, or, full of pain, like the one about the environment, which Jarvis Cocker attacked him for. I like Jarvis, but I personally didn’t really understand the reason for that."

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, pop singer Beyonce described Michael Jackson's passing as "tragic".

"This is such a tragic loss and a terrible day," she said. "The incomparable Michael Jackson has made a bigger impact on music than any other artist in the history of music. He was magic. He was what we all strive to be. He will always be the king of pop!"

Madonna had apparently been planning to join Michael Jackson at his O2 Arena show. The singer's manager posted on his Twitter page, saying "the moment that never happened: A month ago Madonna told me she wanted to do a surprise performance at one of Michael Jackson's UK shows..."

Expect more tributes to Michael Jackson throughout the day.
