World pop star M.I.A. has been left shocked after the birth certificate of her new baby was published online.

M.I.A. has always been protective of her personal life, preferring to let people discuss her music. Recent speculation over the name of her baby son was met with a furious riposte in a Myspace blog posting, with the singer claiming "I didn't release the bay name because I didn't think it was news!'.

The Sri Lankan born star worked on the soundtrack to the hugely successful film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. The soundtrack included her song 'Paper Planes' which went on to become a massive success in the United States.

Nominated for 'Record of The Year' at this year's Grammy Awards ceremony, M.I.A. performed the track whilst heavily pregnant. In fact a scheduled performance at the Oscars has to be postponed - due to the trivial matter of giving birth!

Gossip website TMZ has posted an image which it claims if the baby's birth certificate. If true, then it indicates that the baby's full name is Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman. 'Arular' is also the name of M.I.A.'s debut album which was released in 2005.

The certificate also states that M.I.A. was born a full two years before her previously claimed date of birth.
