MGMT To Open For Paul McCartney
After talk of a team up...
Brooklyn space cadets MGMT are due to open for Sir Paul McCartney at some upcoming concerts.
It would be one of the most unlikely pairings imaginable. The don of popular music Sir Paul McCartney, a man with a back catalogue which revolutionised rock music - and electro newcomers MGMT.
Yet in a recent interview Sir Paul McCartney named the Brooklyn group as possible collaborators. McCartney is a long term fan of electronic music with his recent album 'Electric Arguments' showing traces of a dance influence.
Speaking to British blogger Zoe Griffin the former Beatle stated: "I like MGMT. I'd like to work on some more dancey stuff with MGMT. But it has to happen organically ... We need to talk about it. I can't call them. If they called me, I'd say, 'How did you get my number?' But I'd do it."
Now it seems that collaboration could have taken a step closer. MGMT are booked to play support for the songwriter on an upcoming tour date, with McCartney set to play two nights at Boston's Fenway Park.
Sir Paul McCartney has a jam-packed schedule right now. With the Beatles due for an extensive re-issue program later this year, as well as starring in a special edition of 'Rock Band' the singer is set to play a number of massive live dates.
McCartney headlined Coachella recently, dedicating one song to his late wife Linda. The singer has confirmed a number of dates at New York's Citi Field, which were extended to cope with huge demand.
Citi Field is built on the site of the former Shea Stadium, which hosted a now iconic show by The Beatles. Sir Paul McCartney was invited to return before the arena was demolished as a special guest of BIlly Joel, who played the final concert at Shea.
In addition to this, Sir Paul McCartney has also confirmed details of a show in Atlanta. A benefit concert for an historic park in the city, all funds from the show will go to the upkeep of the park.
Sir Paul McCartney is set to play Boston's Fenway Park between August 5th - 6th.
