MGMT San Francisco Show

Brooklyn space cadets MGMT has announced plans for a surprise show in San Francisco.

MGMT formed while studying at college, but seem to have spent most of their time listening to Black Sabbath records and messing around with synths.

Early videos of the band's shows demonstrate a group who almost immediately found their sound - mixing psych rock with electro pop MGMT crafted something that seemed to capture the atmosphere of summer.

Released last year the band's debut album 'Oracular Spectacular' was one of 2008's defining records. Spawning the single 'Kids' a nifty remix by Belgian beat boffins Soulwax turned MGMT into dancefloor favourites.

Since then the band have toured heavily, before returning to the studio to begin work on their new album. Apparently much more psych influenced than their debut, little has been heard of the new recording sessions.

MGMT made a cryptic announcement yesterday (October 14th):

"Just a reminder that the band are playing Treasure Island Music Festival in your fair city this Saturday (10/17). Also, stay tuned Thursday morning for a special surprise announcement that you may find of interest."

Now the band have unveiled the meaning of the message via their MySpace blog:

"We are playing a headline show at The Independent in San Francisco on Friday October 16"

The message also contained a link and password to get hold of pre-sale and general tickets for the show. As a result, MGMT's new show in San Francisco has completely sold out.
