McCartney On Beatles Early Days
Singer Talks About Mersey Beat Era
Sir Paul McCartney has given an intimate new interview in which he recalls the early days of The Beatles, when the four lads from Liverpool were still almost completely unknown.
McCartney has been busy of late, confirming his divorce from Heather Mills and recording a new album with his The Fireman project. The legendary musician scored a critical success with new record 'Electric Arguments', a stunning combination of his utterly distinctive songcraft and cutting edge technology.
In an interview with The Times the singer reveals that he and John Lennon used to invent personal ads for a Liverpool newspaper to see what their names would look like in print.
"There used to be this paper in Liverpool called Mersey Beat. And in it you had a column where you could put personal ads. And so John and George and I used to put them in. Just so we could see our words in print, you know?” he explained.
"It'd be like: 'Barry! Meet me behind the station at this time.' And then it would come out and we'd be like, 'Yeah! It got in!' Just seeing it there was a little kick."
