Maximo Park Cancel North American Tour

Illness cited for postponed dates

Geordie punk-funk tykes Maximo Park have been forced to pull out of their forthcoming tour of the United States and Canada.

Maximo Park released their latest album 'Quicken The Heart' back in May. Retaining the experimentation of their recent material it nonetheless captured the energy of their sparkling debut 'A Certain Trigger'.

Since its release the band have toured relentlessly. A free show in Newcastle turned into chaos as thousands of fans were turned away, with the group organised several more shows in their hometown by way of compensation.

Hitting the festival circuit Maximo Park were the first group to play this year's Glastonbury festival. Opening a new stage the group allowed fans to choose the set list, which was littered with rarities and B-sides.

Due to head out to the United States to open their new tour, Maximo Park have been forced to pull out. The jaunt was set to open with a slot at Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle on September 6th, before winding its way around North America.

However these dates will not now go ahead. In a statement the band's publicist claimed illness as a reason for the cancellation.

"We regret to inform you that, for personal reasons, we've had to cancel our tour of the USA and Canada, which was planned for September."

"We wholeheartedly apologize to everyone who was looking forward to seeing us perform and we will do everything we can to reschedule the shows. We've always enjoyed visiting North America in the past and are bitterly disappointed to be missing out this time. When we return, it'll be with as much energy and passion as ever."

Ticket refunds will be offered at the point of purchase.
