Mail On Sunday Launches Label

Tabloid Aims For Christmas Hit

British tabloid newspaper Mail On Sunday has launched its own record label, with editor Peter Wright stating that he hopes to secure the Christmas number one slot.

The newspaper has launched Mail On Sunday Sounds, which presumably won't be releasing red hot dubstep plates. Editor Peter Wright told Music Week "I think that if we can move into original content in the long run that will be more exciting. It is closer to what we do in the newspaper - we don't publish other people's stories. We are original content providers. If we can move into that area with music, it is very exciting."

The Mail On Sunday has dipped its toes in the murky waters of the record industry before, giving away free copies of Prince's 'Planet Earth' album as well as McFly's 'Radio:Active'.

Mail On Sunday Sounds first release will be ACM Gospel Choir's cover of 'Holy Night'.
