The Gibson Guitartown London Charity Auction took place on November 20th, and raised a colossal £200,000 for charity.
The highest bid of the night was for a 10 foot tall Gibson Les Paul replica signed by Sir Paul McCartney. Presumably the buyer had exceptionally long arms with which to play the thing. Although they are undoubtedly generous, since the guitar is to be donated to the Great Ormond Street Hospital in December.
The charities who will benefit are Teenage Cancer Trust, The Prince's Trust and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. The money raised will be split equally between the three charities.
Other desirable objects from the night, and their prices, included Ronnie Wood's guitar (£11,000), Slash's Gibson SG (£8,500) and a guitar designed by Sir Peter Blake and signed by Paul Weller (£8,000).
