M83 are being lined up to record the soundtrack for the forthcoming Tom Cruise film 'Oblivion'.

M83's ambition seems to be increasing incrementally. Led by Anthony Gonzalez, the band's 2011 album 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming' was an expansive double LP set which stretched their shoegaze template past breaking point.

Now it seems that the band have been recruited for a high profile soundtrack. The Playlist spoke to Anthony Gonzalez, who revealed that he is working on a score for the upcoming Tom Cruise movie 'Oblivion'.

"I've wanted to do soundtracks for so long," Gonzalez told the Playlist (via Rolling Stone). "Starting with such an ambitious project, especially in the sci-fi category, means a lot to me."

"I like challenges, and it excites me more than frightens me," he continued. "I can't wait to hear my music played by amazing musicians and an orchestra and brass and maybe choirs. It's a chance to create something big and I'm ready for it."

'Oblivion' stars Tom Cruise as a drone repairman in a desolate future, whose life is turned around after rescuing a stranger.

The sci-fi setting seems to be pushing Anthony Gonzalez onto new heights. "This is a new adventure, so I'm going to push myself even harder and try to surprise people and move people with my music," he told the Playlist. "My vision is really to have a combination of very electronic moments, very M83, and sometimes merge into something more soundtrack-y, but my kind of soundtracks."

'Oblivion' is scheduled to open in April 2013.
