Luke Steele On Jay-Z Track
Australian singer speaks to ClashMusic
Australian singer Luke Steele has spoken to ClashMusic about his recent Jay-Z collaboration.
To stay at the top, Jay-Z needs to stay one step ahead of the game. Returning with his new album 'The Blueprint 3' the rapper began working with some of the most important figures in American music.
However few expected Australian star Luke Steele to feature on there. The lead singer with The Sleepy Jackson and synth pop group Empire Of The Sun, the rocker lent his vocals to one of the standout moments on 'The Blueprint 3'.
Speaking to ClashMusic, Luke Steele revealed that the recording process was extremely straight forward. "He heard my voice through Grand Entourage, I think there’s a story about that, and he felt it would have been right for the record" the singer recalled.
"He contacted me and needed this track done pretty quick. I did it in a few days in Perth, sent it over and then main man Jay phoned up about three in the morning after to say that he loved it."
Continuing, Luke Steele revealed that he was given an extremely loose brief. "I got a great brief which was: got to town. I took those words pretty seriously. I rehearsed a few things, did a little rap and funnily enough they really liked it."
The Empire Of The Sun singer also told ClashMusic about a recent glut of new material, which he is pondering what to do with. "I’m trying to get the Sleepy album together but I’ve been so busy with the Empire stuff. Again, it’s just the point of working out the right direction of the record I want to make" he claimed.
"It’s kind of hard – you don’t want to put out a record where it’s a yoga teacher crossed with a dance head, as well as a Neil Young fan and a bit of The Beatles."
