East End Film Festival - April

Now in it’s tenth year, the East End Film Festival has become one of the biggest film festivals in London offering a 9-day packed programme of screenings and film-focused music and arts events spread across thirty East London locations, including Spitalfields Market, Barbican Centre, Whitechapel Art Gallery and Cineworld Canary Wharf. The full Festival Programme will be announced on Tuesday 23 March 2010 and will run from 22ND- 30TH APRIL…

Last year’s festival saw audience numbers rise to over 30,000 people. This year, East End Film Festival will screen over 200 films, showcasing an impressive range of independent film premieres from the UK and abroad, with an emphasis on arts and music documentaries, experimental shorts, animation, and Eastern European and South East Asian cutting edge urban cinema.

Here are just a few of some of the fantastic events featured:

23 April – CARL BARAT of Libertines fame will feature in THE RIME OF THE MODERN MARINER film premiere + live performance/party on Friday 23 April at St Annes Church in Limehouse.

24 April - Whitechapel Art Gallery event: Exploring the Legacy of Punk Poetry. After a screening of Dom Shaw's documentary "All The Years Of Trying" there will be a discussion with guests such as poets Benjamin Zephaniah, Attila The Stockbroker, and Boff Whalley of Chumbawumba.

26 April (event) & 28 April (screening & gig) – ROCK AGAINST RACISM: “Who Shot the Sherriff” feature premiere on Wednesday 28 and round table discussion at VIBE Live on 26 April with Mark Steel (Chair), Don Letts, Gurinder Chadha. Billy Bragg, Feargal Sharkey and SHIFTY’s Riz Ahmed are expected to participate as well.
