Taken from Buddy Holly tribute...

The Detroit Cobras have given ClashMusic an exclusive stream of their Buddy Holly cover 'Heartbeat'.

Buddy Holly was a true innovator. Although the Texan's career only intersected with mainstream pop culture for 18 months, his spectacle-clad portrait remains instantly recognisable across the world.

Mixing rhythm 'n' blues, country and more his subtle, driving rhythms turned him into an idol. Yet it was his tender side, his sense of being an outsider which really made Buddy Holly loved by his fans.

Sadly perishing in an air crash, Buddy Holly could have such fantastic music had he lived. New compilation 'Rave On' has invited some presenter day rockers to pay tribute to the Texan, resulting in some unusual contributions.

Big hitters such as Paul McCartney, Lou Reed and more pay tribute to their boyhood hero however intriguing takes from Florence & The Machine, She & Him, Modest Mouse, The Black Keys and more.

Garage rockers The Detroit Cobras are huge fans of Buddy Holly, and chose to cover 'Heartbeat'. A joyous, infectious cut it is perhaps better known to British fans for soundtracking a certain Sunday night serial.

Yet The Detroit Cobras manage to peel this back, returning 'Heartbeat' to its origins as a teenage love song.
