So: we need to talk about the new Radiohead track.
The band teased fans with a short clip on Instagram this morning (May 3rd), featuring an animated bird tweeting.
Well, the full video is now here. 'Burn The Witch' is online now, and the early reaction is that it's a complete triumph.
Soaring, powerful music, rooted in rather more traditional songwriting than their recent abstraction, it nonetheless finds Radiohead breaking new ground.
Jonny Greenwood's stabbing strings have a percussive effect, while Thom Yorke's paranoid vocals – "shoot the messengers", anyone? – are crushed beneath the musical weight.
Chris Hopewell directs the accompanying visuals, that recall the stop-motion work of 60s children's shows such as Camberwick Green.
The overall effect, though, is something rather more eerie.
Check it out now.
'Burn The Witch' will be available from digital retailers from 00.01 on May 4th.
