The Roots' drummer ?uestlove has posted a Beastie Boys inspired mix - listen to it now.
One of the best love figures in American hip hop, ?uestlove is readying himself for another busy spell. The Roots may be the house band on Fallon, but that hasn't stopped the drummer from taking on another batch of projects.
First up: ?uestlove is re-launching Okayplayer. The label was initially inaugurated back in 1999 and quickly became a hub for like minds (think alternative hip hop and neo-soul, along with a few curveballs).
Quickly expanding, Okayplayer stormed ahead before seeming to run out of energy back in 2004. Now Billboard reports (via FACT) that the drummer is to lead the resurgent imprint, with new signings including Danny! and Young Guru.
Now for something completely different...
Yesterday (August 15th) ?uestlove posted a new mix of Beastie Boys classics. Seemingly crafted for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the drummer deemed the mix "hilarious enough to share..."
