Listen: Nadine Shah – Cry Me A River

Jazz standard re-worked...

Nadine Shah has posted a new rendition of jazz standard 'Cry Me A River'.

Nadine Shah has always been open about the influence of jazz on her work. Sure, her works touches on electronica – R&S have even stepped in to sign her – but Shah's heart remains with some of the great songwriters of the 20th century.

Which perhaps explains the power behind this new cover. 'Cry Me A River' is one of the most sacred texts in jazz music, written by Arthur Hamilton but popularised by Julie London's extravagant version.

An oft performed classic, Nadine Shah is nonetheless able to find her own place within the song. It's a powerful performance, one that reveals another facet to her musical approach.
