A mixture of pathos, nostalgia and superstar guests, John Lewis ads aren't to everyone's tastes.
Yet they do provide a talking point. Toasting its 150th anniversary, the chain has unveiled a new promotional campaign featuring a brand new recording.
Gaz Coombes has stepped in to cover 'This Time Tomorrow' by – who else? – The Kinks. Utterly British and joyously nostalgic in the best way possible, the one time Supergrass head honcho has remained faithful to the original.
A brisk run through, there's plenty of Gaz Coombes' traditional energy in there as well. "It's such a cool track" he said. "I definitely wanted to retain the uplifting feel of the original while putting my own spin on it. The recording session was a lot of fun, loads of energy flying around. I reckon we definitely captured that vibe with this version".
