De La Soul have paid tribute to Wu-Tang Clan with new track 'Get Away'.
The sound of hip-hop's Golden Age isn't going away any time soon. A new breed of MCs are playing with the legacy of the 90s, with the likes of Bishop Nehru and Joey BadA$$ adding their own flavour to a still inspiring sound.
De La Soul have more right than most to re-visit the past. The Daisy Age pioneers went back into the studio last year, completing their first full album in a decade.
Now they've posted a brand new track. De La Soul have sampled Wu-Tang Clan on 'Get Away', more specifically using a beat from the Staten Island crew's (some would say under rated) second album 'Wu-Tang Forever'.
Titled 'In The Spirit Of The Wu' it's a clear shout out from one iconic hip hop crew to another. Says Posdnuos:
"I’ve always loved the ‘Intro’ on Disc Two of Wu-Tang Forever – this erie sample with no beat, that they only talked over, I stumbled on the original sample while crate digging one day, took it straight to the lab and added drums. The feel is definitely gritty, hard and sounds like a Wu record, so out of inspirational respect, we included featuring ‘The Spirit of the Wu’ in the song title.”
