Lightspeed Champion For Latitude

'Harold And Maude' show announced

Quirky songwriter Lightspeed Champion is the latest addition to this summer’s Latitude festival.

Real name Dev Hynes, the songwriter began life in the furious dance-punk trio Test Icicles. After announcing that no one in the group actually liked their own music the band split, with Hynes turning towards his trusty acoustic guitar.

Taking the name Lightspeed Champion, the singer began playing acoustic nights around London. Gathering a cult fan base, Lightspeed Champion worked with a number of other up and coming talents including Florence Welch.

Snapped up by Domino Records, Lightspeed Champion released his debut album ‘Falling Off The Lavender Bridge’ last year. Celebrated by critics, the album’s songwriting was extremely imaginative with Hynes seemingly living in his own detached universe.

Earlier this year Lightspeed Champion played a very special concert inspired by ‘Harold And Maude’. A British comedy-drama from 1971, the original version contained a soundtrack written by Cat Stevens.

Covering the soundtrack in its entirety, Lightspeed Champion is set to perform the tracks for only the second time at Latitude this summer.

Held in Suffolk, Latitude is due to be headlined by the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. However even these sterling acts have been overshadowed by a late addition.

Thom Yorke is due to play a very special solo show at Latitude this summer. With Radiohead only playing one festival slot in the UK this year, the performance will literally be one of a kind.

With solo album ‘The Eraser’ behind him Thom Yorke has plenty of material to pick from. Taking to the stage at the fairly early time of 1pm, the singer’s set is just one stunning addition to a bill already packed with talent.

Other additions to Latitude include of Montreal, Lykke Li, Golden Silvers, Fever Ray and many, many more.

Latitude festival is due to take place between July 17th – 19th.
