Could he perform 'Wonderwall'?

Reports are emerging in the British press that Liam Gallagher could be set to perform at the Olympics.

Well, there's no show without Punch, as they say. The Olympics is the biggest event of the summer, with countless millions across the globe set to tune into the sporting extravaganza.

The finale of the Olympics will use plenty of legendary musicians, giving a British flavour to the event. Now reports are emerging that Beady Eye are set to help bring down the curtain on the festivities.

The Sun report that Beady Eye will perform at the finale of the Olympics. "A source" told the paper that Noel Gallagher was initially approached, but opted to continue with his North American tour.

Deciding to ask Liam Gallagher, Beady Eye jumped at the chance to perform in front of a global audience. "A couple of months back the Olympic production team got in touch with Noel about playing his part in the closing ceremony. Along with his manager, they thought long and hard about it. It was a big temptation, with 650million people expected to tune in on TV."

Continuing, the source said: "But he knocked it back in the end — he has been on a great tour and he doesn’t really need to do it. The organisers asked Liam if he was game and he said yes. The Who are on the same bill, so he was well up for it".

"The team wanted something quintessentially British — a real flag-waving, singalong moment to show the rest of the world what this country has produced. Oasis were exactly that and, whether it’s Noel or his brother Liam, they just wanted a bit of rock ’n’ roll in there."

Beady Eye have yet to officially confirm the performance.
