Leonard Cohen UK Date
Legendary songwriter returns
One of the most acclaimed songwriters in modern music is set to return to the UK with Leonard Cohen unveiling a very special one off performance.
Leonard Cohen began life as a poet and author in his native Canada. Writing intense symbolist inspired works such as 'Flowers For Hitler' Cohen grew enamoured with the emerging counter culture in the United States and moved to New York.
Securing a contract with Columbia, the writer became a singer. Debut album 'Songs Of Leonard Cohen' was an instant classic, containing the much covered 'Suzanne'. The songwriter followed this with a number of well received albums but his career faded as the 70s progressed.
Reinventing his sound with 'I'm Your Man' Cohen's career has had many ups and downs. Perhaps the worst moment of his career with being threatened with bankruptcy after his accountant stole a huge sum of money from the songwriter.
However a recent tour boosted his profile, with his song 'Halelujah' being covered by the winners of both American Idol and X Factor. In Britain, the song made history as fans of Jeff Buckley bought his version en masse making 'Hallelujah' the first song to take the top two positions in the Christmas chart run down.
Cohen recently announced details of a new live album. Recorded live in the O2 Arena in London, it contains tracks from throughout his career.
Leonard Cohen has surprised fans by announcing a new date. The singer is set to tread the board in Liverpool later this year, which could well be his only UK date of the year.
Leonard Cohen will play the following British date:
