Leonard Cohen Collapses

Food poisoning blamed

Legendary songwriter Leonard Cohen is recovering following an onstage collapse in Spain on Friday (September 18th).

Leonard Cohen is one of the most influential songwriters of all time. Earning a reputation as one of the finest young poets in Canada Leonard Cohen decided to move to the United States to experience the emerging counter-culture.

Since then, the songwriter's career has had more than its fair share of ups and downs. A mid 70s career lull was followed by the unlikely triumph of 'I'm Your Man'.

After this, Leonard Cohen decided to become a zen monk, hiding himself away in a monastery for several years. Upon his return to the music industry the singer discovered that he was nearly bankrupt after having hundreds of thousands of dollars embezzled from his account.

Re-issuing his acclaimed early novels Leonard Cohen began working on new material. 'Ten New Songs' in 2001 was followed by 'Dear Heather' in 2004 as the singer re-established himself as a songwriting icon.

Touring extensively, the 74 year old has shown remarkable energy in pursuing his comeback. However this may have taken its toll, with Leonard Cohen collapsing onstage on Friday (September 18th).

The 74-year-old was performing 'Bird On A Wire' at Valencia Luis Puig Velodromo when he suddenly collapsed towards the end of the song.

Band mates rushed to his aid, with a spokesperson for Leonard Cohen later confirming that the singer had been taken to hospital. Obviously, fans were concerned for his health but it seems as though Cohen is well on the way to recovery.

Leonard Cohen is still expected to perform at Barcelona's Palau Sant Jordi venue on Monday (September 21st).
