Leonard Cohen Bushfire Donation
Singer aims to help victims
Leonard Cohen has been caught up in the bushfires in Australia during his recent tour there, and the songwriter has generously donated money to help the victims.
The massive bushfires across the Australian state of Victoria have shocked the world, leaving behind utter devastation in their wake. The Canadian singer is currently on tour in the country, and has been stunned by the level of damage the fires have created.
Together with support act Paul Kelly, and music firms AEG Live and Frontier Touring Company, the tour has pledged AU$200,000 to help the victims.
A statement from Frontier Touring Company's Michael Gudiniski reads: "Leonard has loved his time in Australia on this tour and is shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the fires."
"Leonard, Paul, their touring parties and everyone at AEGLive UK and the Frontier Touring Company wish to extend their heartfelt sympathies to those that have suffered the loss of loved ones or their homes through this terrible tragedy."
The donation is all the more generous considering it was not that long ago that Cohen was nearly made bankrupt following some decidedly dodgy dealings by his accountant.
The Australian bush fires have killed nearly 200 people and destroyed over 1000 homes.
