Lennon Rarity Goes For $30,000

'Drunk' Recording Sold Off

A recording dating back to 1973 of John Lennon singing a cover of Loyd Price's 'Just Because' has been auctioned off, and reached the princely sum of $30,000.

The recording, made during The Beatles legend's infamous 'lost weekend' period, has never been aired in public, and also features the singer changing the original lyrics to an improvised rant. The auctioneer did give fans a glimpse of the lyrics, confirming Lennon's lyrics as "Just a little cocaine will set me right… Wanna take all them new singers, Carol and the other one with the nipples, I wanna take 'em and hold 'em tight".

Lennon famously left his then wife Yoko Ono for a period which he would later refer to as his ''Lost Weekend'', where he also reportedly had a relationship with his assistant May Pang, who later went on to write two books about the star.
