Lennon / Ono Photo Exhibition

Rare photos in new retrospective

A new exhibition in Scotland will feature several unseen photos of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

For those who don't know, Dundee is a small Scottish city on the coast of the North Sea. As well as giving the world electrical light, The View George Lamb (sorry) it also spawned Clash Magazine.

Which is why it gives us great pleasure to report on an exciting new exhibition in the city. 'From Dundee To Abbey Road' will take place at Discovery Point and shows the work of the neglected photographer Iain MacMillan.

A son of Dundee, the photographer gravitated to London where he took a series of snaps documenting a rapidly changing city. Published in the book 'The Book Of London' in 1966, the photographer soon came to the attention of Yoko Ono.

Working closely with John Lennon and the Japanese experimental artist, MacMillan photographed the clouds on Live Peace In Toronto (1969), by John and Yoko, and was also involved with Sometime in New York City (1972), having lived with them for a month.

In addition to this Iain MacMillan designed the cover to the classic festive single 'Happy XMas (War Is Over)'. Exhibited across the world throughout the 80s, the photographer later retired to a home in rural Carnoustie.

In 1993 MacMillan was invited to work on the cover of Sir Paul McCartney's album 'Paul Is Live' which echoed the famous zebra crossing photo which adorns The Beatles' Abbey Road.

Sadly dying in 2006, 'From Dundee To Abbey Road' aims to bring the work of this photographer to wider recognition.

'From Dundee To Abbey Road' runs from February 27th to June 3rd.
