Leicester Venue Could Close

The Charlotte in administration

With the music industry still adjusting to new economic conditions famous Leicester venue The Charlotte has been told it could close within a fortnight, it has been reported.

The venue has been open for some 20 years, with the former concert hall being managed by Andy Wright. Having played host to some of the biggest British acts to emerge in that time, The Charlotte has gained a reputation as one of the Midlands top venues.

Amongst the acts who have tread the boards at the Leicester establishment are Blur, Oasis, Coldplay and Kasabian. Operating company The Princess Charlotte Public House has been placed in administration and unless financial assistance is found the venue will be sold off.

Wright told Thisisleicestershire.co.uk: "Basically, if they are not prepared to support it and prop it up, it's the end of an era."

"If Punch (the owners) decided not to support the venue, we would need someone to come in, and put in some money. Something has to be approved by the end of the month or it will close. It's a legendary venue. It would be a big shame to see it go."
