Led Zeppelin To Feature On Stamp
Classic album covers used
The Royal Mail has confirmed that they are set to issue a special range of stamps featuring classic artwork from the likes of Led Zeppelin and more.
Whilst its importance may have diminished in the download age, album artwork was once given prominence second only to the music itself.
Some of the most iconic albums in British musical history have come equipped with instantly recognisable artwork. Take The Beatles back catalogue - where would 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band' be without Peter Blake's stunning montage?
A new range of stamps from the Royal Mail aims to celebrate the legacy of some incredible British designers. The set of ten stamps will be available from January 7th, according to stamp collecting website Norvic Philatelics.
Lists of famous artwork tend to focus on the same few groups, but in a surprisingly eclectic list The Royal Mail have included some unexpected names.
Led Zeppelin IV is set to be used, with its famous 'four symbols' iconography. Famously, each member of the band chose a symbol to represent themselves with many theories surrounding the development of each marker.
Also set to be used is the cover to New Order's classic album 'Power, Corruption And Lies'. Crafted by Peter Saville it is one of the most beautiful covers ever produced by Factory Records - a label who specialised in stunning artwork.
The list is completed by 'The Division Bell' by Pink Floyd, 'Parklife', 'London Calling' by The Clash, Primal Scream's 'Screamadelica', 'Let It Bleed' by The Rolling Stones, Coldplay's 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars' by David Bowie and Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells'.
The set of ten stamps are set to enter circulation on January 7th.
