Led Zeppelin May Tour
According to their manager
Rock legends Led Zeppelin may reform without original singer Robert Plant for a new album and tour, their manager has claimed in a new interview.
The band split in 1980 following the death of original drummer John Bonham, but reformed in 2007 for a tribute concert to Atlantic Records boss Ahmet Ertegun. Since then, the group have been dogged by rumours of a full scale reformation and tour, but these were thrown into disarray when singer Robert Plant announced he would have no part of it.
Manager Peter Mensch told BBC 6Music that "they did the show with Robert Plant; they had a really good time rehearsing, the three of them, before Robert showed up. And they decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill – whatever their bill was at this stage in their career – that they’d make a record and go on tour."
“And I support that because, why not? That’s what Jimmy Page does. That’s his job, his hobby, his vocation.”
Mensch did not make clear whether the project would actually be known as 'Led Zeppelin' or whether another name would be used.
The manager refused to comment on speculation that the group were auditioning for new singers, rumoured to include Steve Tyler of Aerosmith and Chris Cornell.
“I can’t comment on any rumours right now. It’s going to be a long and difficult process. And we’re not soliciting people," he claimed.
