LCD Soundsystem Single
Alan Vega cover due
American dance-punk overlords LCD Soundsystem are set to cover Alan Vega for a limited edition single.
LCD Soundsystem helped spark the post-punk revival which has so dominated the past decade's worth of music. The band's debut single 'Losing My Edge' was a collision of dance and rock, with its jaded hipster stance proving to be infectious.
Since then the band have expanded, with lead singer James Murphy able to focus on his songwriting. Retaining their inventive production 2007's album 'Sound Of Silver' was hailed as their finest hour to date.
Spawning the singles 'Someone Great' and 'All My Friends' the album is surely one of the finest released this decade. Since then, James Murphy has done plenty of DJing but a follow up is still a while off.
Now LCD Soundsystem have confirmed details of a new release. The band are set to celebrate independent record stores with a special vinyl only release, available from November 12th.
The new 12 inch will contain a cover of 'Bye Bye Bayou' originally recorded by Suicide singer Alan Vega on his 1980 debut album. With Vega turning 70 James Murphy isn't the only star covering his material with the Blast First label organising a series of special seven inch releases.
Meanwhile, LCD Soundsystem's Facebook page is brimming with news of their new album. One status update reveals: "making music for a lot of different things right now. 2010 looks to be interesting."
Another states: "back in nyc. in the studio. making record."
LCD Soundsystem will release their new single 'Bye Bye Bayou' on November 12th.
